I feel like aoe wouldn't hit the ENTIRE board, but rather would still burn down a character's board. ie, if me and my partner both had boards full of patrons and you cast flame strike, you'd have to choose me or him to be the target, not both.

Conversely, the board could be neutral and a flame strike would hit all 3 opponent's (2opponents and 1 teammate) board.

Well then you would just face down 1 dude and then 2v1 the other even if one of you dies you still win

Or the two players could have a shared health pool. It could work either way. And you wouldn't just face down one player, they are going to work as a team to stop that from happening.
