Hey guys, I've been having some problems lately with my game. I will be playing Left 4 Dead 2 and then all of a sudden, when my game changes maps, my fps will drop to like a max of 40 and drops down to like 25 at times. The problem is that I run the game on the highest graphics and get 60 fps like 95% of the time... This will also do this on Skyrim at times and my GPU usage will skyrocket to 99% and doesn't go down in L4D2... Skyrim sometimes will recover a few seconds after the fps drop and will go back to it's usual, but sometimes gets stuck at the lower fps. What's strange is that even after restarting L4D2, it will remain low on that map whereas on Skyrim, if I restarted my game, the fps will return back to normal. Again, in L4D2, when the fps drops, my GPU usage skyrockets and remains at 99% (same with skyrim). This can be reversed by putting my computer to sleep or simply restarting it (L4D2).

Tl;Dr - Fps drops in L4D2 after entering a new map; doesn't go up unless I put my computer to sleep or restart it (freeing the video card memory i'm guessing), GPU usage @ 99%.

Computer Specs
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate x64
CPU - AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE 3.4 GHz
GPU - EVGA Geforce GTX 560 Ti - 1 GB VRAM
DRAM - 8 GB 1333 MHz
HDD - 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend asking on the steam forum, since they probably know more about those games.

As I recall, Skyrim has a notoriously shitty engine that can ruin your FPS depending on where you are in the world. Markath is the worst offender I think.
