Over the last couple of years I've been playing a ton of RPG's.

One thing I noticed was, there was a problem when it came to character development in the form of specialization. To over specialize any particular class lead to massive pigeonholing of classes, while reduction of specialization cause certain classes to become nearly obsolete.

How is this conundrum resolved or rather balanced so that there is enough specialization that each class plays a unique role in a party without leading to pigeonholing and not too reduced to the point where any isolated group will be obsolete?

Always make a healer so that the douche bag people who want high damage will always invite you because they are retarded in giving themselves no form of healing.

Problem solved.
