Dragon Age: Origins is a good new one. I absolutely hated it at first, but after reaching my limit with the annoying dialogue, I started clicking through almost all of that and now find the game much more enjoyable. You can also change the difficulty mid-game if you get stuck somewhere. I enjoy that since some of the quests are long as hell, and it's nice to speed things up for a change. But of course, if you like a really deep ass story, then you can listen to everyone and it'll be more like a movie than a game 1/2 the time.
Oblivion is also fun. I have many complaints about the menu system and NPC AI, but overall, it's solid. Good game for when you just want to sit back and ride around on a horse in the dark, kill some random shit, etc. Open world... love that aspect.
Baldur's gate for old school.
All PC suggestions. I never got into consoles.
