You shouldn't play a game based on what you hear about it. you should try them all and form your own opinion on them. 4 and Tactics are great games.

FF7 was a big hit, because it was the first Final Fantasy on Playstation and brought a new aspect of graphical advancements to the series. The same is with Suikoden. It had been like 5 years since we'd seen a Suikoden game until S3 came out.
The series still had a pretty substantial following prior to S3, and overall it was one of the worst Suikoden games.

i only played suikoden 1 but i played the hell out of it. beat it a few different times. always wanted to play the later ones but ya know how that goes sometimes.
