"No story" would not suit me well, but much less of a story would.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's an amazing game if it's what you're into, but I'm just not digging it. Even the combat I've been involved in hasn't really been my style. It's much more turn-based than I had anticipated. I knew going in that the combat was based on tactical pauses and such, but I didn't expect it to be so to the extent that I've seen thus far. I kinda thought the tactical approach was going to be primarily for big battles and boss encounters and the world combat would be more suited to real-time play. Oh well.

Same here. The solution is: easy mode. Trust me, it works, you can battle real time instead of "turn based" which sucks especially if you don't start with a mage that can heal. The first mage you get doesn't have heal and doesn't level up before the first boss.

That was kind of my solution. At least in parts. Boss fights I love. I do those on hard to start. Usually I get WTFBBQPWNED, so I switch to normal. On a LOT of quests though, I have set it on easy. The Orzammar crap in The Deep Roads for example... that crap was so long and tedious that I just had to put it on easy so I could steamroll through it. And the quest for the Juggernaut set, because I did that about 3 levels before I was ready to with the revenants and whatnot.

I've now realized another issue though. I love playing tanking classes, so w/e... I'll go real-time with Allistair and I'm functional, but the amount of micro-management that a mage requires to really be useful is stupid. There's simply no way to set tactics for how I play a mage, because 1/2 of their spells are situational. It's tolerable on bosses where I can do okay just having them nuke/heal, but on trash fights, you're pretty much forced to micro-manage for CC spells or alternatively just play the mage straight up and AOE the shit out of everything in sight.

I also hate how the gear scales so slowly. Just a personal preference though.

Overall though, I'm enjoying the game now, but it's not quite what I'd hoped and expected.

I realize it is a role-playing game, but it's coming off as more of a choose-your-fate book. I'm not far in, but you'd think they'd want to hook the player with some action early on. Like my first 2 hours playing were nothing but dialogue.

it's a seamless rpg or orpg (open role playing game) there tends to be quite a bit of talking. but it picks up after ostagar.

Eh, I finished it a few days ago. It picked up in a few spots, slowed down again horribly in other spots... whole lot of dialogue clickin. But I made a good save library of all the boss fights, so at least I can revisit the parts that actually interested me on all difficulties.

You said you have it on P.C.? Since BioWare released they're DA:O toolset i'm sure there are lots of unofficial patches you can download, and they most likely have little to no dialogue.

EDIT:

Also if you just like alot of killing, I suggest you pick up Divinty 2: Ego Draconis, the game was pretty fun imo, not much talking.
