For those that have played: When does the f-ing action start? Is this a movie or a game? So far it's all been talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk...

... how long have you even played. Dragon age is a role playing game so expect to be totally immersed into the character.

I realize it is a role-playing game, but it's coming off as more of a choose-your-fate book. I'm not far in, but you'd think they'd want to hook the player with some action early on. Like my first 2 hours playing were nothing but dialogue.

Maybe RPG's are not the type of game genre for you.

I think you're right. I usually love games in the RPG genre, but I've never seen one so involved as this. I usually tolerate the jibber-jabber in RPGs, because they otherwise tend to be some of the more developed and well-received games available. This one is just soooooooo heavy on character development that it's boring me to death. I'm all for a good story, but if I got time to be playing a game, I want it to be spent playing, not talking.

Also, in retrospect now, like 9/10 of the "RPGs" I've played are really not even close to being RPGs by DA standards. DA makes Oblivion look like a pure hack-and-slash.

You're not that far, how would you like the game to be called an RPG but have no story (Demon's Souls) to throw you into?

It picks up later.

"No story" would not suit me well, but much less of a story would.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's an amazing game if it's what you're into, but I'm just not digging it. Even the combat I've been involved in hasn't really been my style. It's much more turn-based than I had anticipated. I knew going in that the combat was based on tactical pauses and such, but I didn't expect it to be so to the extent that I've seen thus far. I kinda thought the tactical approach was going to be primarily for big battles and boss encounters and the world combat would be more suited to real-time play. Oh well.

It's only turn based if you don't hotkey your actions, but the AI system in this wasn't thought out very well (who the fuck made the idea of having us code the "if" statements, and if you don't know what I mean, it's the If (this), do (this) shit you put in under the tactics menu)
