Many mmo players believe that soulbound items and decaying items is vital to a games economy to prevent flooding but I disagree. Take d2 for example, while not an mmo, if you look at non-ladder even after 15 years of the game being out top level gear is very expensive. Even if you have 10 bots going 24/7 for 2 years, chances of you finding a gfg rare amulet/ring/circ are very low. For the casual player it sucks because in levels of pvp and competition he could never have all the top level gear and be as strong as the hardcore players but in a gear based open world pvp mmos that is reality. Trading and pvp is important in a mmo imo and a central currency with a huge item database and many ultra-rare items that need years of playing to find makes for a good economy. Take away trading from a game and making items soulbound and easier to find kills a huge social and economical aspect of the game. D2jsp thrived on a single currency and ultra rare (and normal) items being traded under that one currency. Just because d2 is not mmo doesn't mean a similar gear system with in-game "fg" (gold) can't work. Add a great pvp and pvp gear crafting system and you have all that makes a game great, good social economy and good pvp.
