From what I understand, GW2 has instanced quests dungeons and pvp while keeping a similar world layout like GW1 (with segmented zones and towns).
The lack of a seamless persistent world is why I was making the comparison. Also, Nexon is pretty bad at managing game content, and so is AreaNet.
I enjoyed Guild Wars 1, but even before the expacs came out, there were problems with farming. They tried nerfing skills, changing AI and adding tons of extra mobs to the point where you wouldn't even want to go to those places without being a dedicated farm team. AION turned out to be the same bloated broken gold farm fest due to broken skill combinations. After seeing how they addressed these issues, I decided I wasn't going to play anymore. Development on GW2 started before they made some of these changes, and I bet you that many of the same issues will be present in GW2. In other words, GW2 isn't going to be "a really good mmorpg."
