haven't played this since Frozen Throne first came out. Are the races pretty evenly balanced?

I see Undead get a lot of hate, are they that noticeably worse that the others?

I play Undead ONLY so here's my 2 cents

Undead players are either horrible, or really good.

If you don't scout, you will lose
If you don't counter, you will lose

Orc BM is overpowered ( especially when stacked )
NE DH & Warden have OP harassing

But all in all the races are even, whoever counters wins

Thanks for the response. I mainly ask because a friend told me that competitive Warcraft3 has turned into a game of towers.

He's basically right, BUT, towers are only effective if they don't scout you, if you manage to get them well built and fortified, and if they don't prevent you from towering.

I'm guessing you want to play Undead - in that case, towers will wtfown you if you do not scout and get 2 wagons.

Humans are not balanced imo

Humans are all over the place

Humans are a great countering race and have good anti air.
Night Elfs are weak pussies and suck versus siege but many of their units have abilities beyond other races, making them balanced.
Undead is for players that are pussies, fiends to frosts with a DK is the easiest thing to handle in the game, i once showed my friend a build who had no idea how to play war 3 and he had a 3 game win streak and didnt even know how to use a hero.
Orc has strong melee and a nice set of casters but so do all races. Their air is under powered but bats are nice aa.

As far as heros go: BM>SH>FS>TC MK>AM>PALLY>BMAGE DK>LICH>CL>DL DK>KOTG>POTM>WARDEN

but all players have a preference to their hero and the hero should be built around a unit strategy, but i ranked them in their order of OP

Lol lmk when you wanna 1vs1 vs my Undead.. I'd like to see your micro vs dk/lich/pl fiends/necros/aboms/wyrms/destros

the bad ud players only mass fiends and get like 2 stats, or try to ghoul rush. obv youve never played vs good UD
