if THAT doesn't work, uninstall, run reg cleaner, then reinstall

When did u get that error?.. while starting the game?...
or trying to host a game?..

if you used AWC then thats your way out. reinstall warcraft3. i had same problems whenever i used AWC to try to change CD keys... fucked my wc3 up i just reinstalled and everything was fine again. dont use any programs like that imo^^ sucks..

did u try fixing with CCleaner yet?
Did u rename movie files?

also try this

Adjust the sound hardware acceleration:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type dxdiag and press the enter key
4. Click on the Sound tab
5. Move the hardware sound acceleration level slider bar to the far right and then one notch to the left so it reads standard acceleration
6. Click exit and try the game again
