I can see a lot of possible openings leading into disruptor plays, that is inevitable, but that hasn't been different. Mirror matchups inevitably always went into one certain unit comp. It used to be colossuses back then, now it is disruptors, and that shit's insane, and will always be entertaining.
There have certainly been times where mirrors had multiple metagames...there was a time where PvP featured a lot of games with phoenix openings and a lot of games with 4 gate openings...and even some immortal openings. ZvZ was, for the longest time, a contest of muta rush vs ling play, but then mutas got super popular, then it just became roach wars. TvT has always been pretty mirror-y, just due to how good siege tanks are in that matchup. We've seen bio-tank vs pure mech but it's almost always tank focused.
But yeah, for the vast majority of the time for every matchup mirrors have been quite literally mirrors, with both players picking the same unit comps and having only minor differences in how they get to that mid-game position.
