Pick Protoss.

This might be good advice if he wanted to get good but if he really is clueless about how rts games work why don't we just let him play zerg first? Get some easy wins, boost up his confidence, etc. Why discourage him? I mean, when a child first starts to learn how to drive a bicycle, its advised that he use those little training wheels. It lets him get comfortable and still ride the bike with minimal chances of him falling.
Play zerg man, there is no shame in riding the bike with the training wheels. In a week or two, once you hit high masters with zerg, you can begin to learn the game and pick a race that asks more of you, such as terran or protoss.
