TL:DR to the point: In proleague tournys why do people know who they are playing? Would it not be a much more intense set of games if people had no idea the person they were playing against (kind of like low league ladder). I say this because...

I noticed Demu hadnt been streaming...I just got back into SC a bit and switched Terran (yea yea shoulda gone toss for ez wins..) and realized he hasn't streamed, that I saw, in at least a month. Well I found a post he made describing why - people were (obviously) studying his games, streams, vods etc...whether or not that is why he didnt qualify, it is still at least a potential hindrance. So my question is why do they let people know who they are playing at all when proleague is in question? I feel like it kind of ruins the game, and removes an entire aspect of the the heart of StarCraft - the unknown. Yes each player has different tendencies and doesnt play exactly the same every game, but the tendencies are still there.

What are your thoughts? Honestly looking for some of your view points, not trying to troll or get trolled (yea I know, sc subforum...kind of like looking for diet advice from your fat aunt, but there are some decent people here amongst the morons)

BTW, this is the post that solidified my opinion that tournaments should be played blindly. Everyone plays as bar code and you don't find out who you are playing until after (obv Idra would be a give away but...that's his fault :p)

It creates more mindgames and really brings out who's the better player.

No one would watch games if no one ever knew who was playing.

Kind of, but there would be different mind games if you had no idea who you were playing.

I dunno, maybe do it so the public knows who is playing, but they dont? Kind of like poker...you know their hands but neither of the players knows the other players hand? I just feel like the games are too dependent on who they are playing AGAINST and less dependent on themselves if you know what I mean.

I'm not even suggesting that all tournys be like that, but surely there would be interest in some blind tournys? Like a true test of the better player at a base level and not who's better at knowing who they are playing? They are all great players as far as general game mechanics etc is concerned.

If everyone was barcoding at all times you would see really good players getting cheesed out by fucking scrubs left and right

i'd probably stop watching professional starcraft

Like... if a really good say Terran is up against a bad zerg he will play REALLY safe and try to win it late, if he is up against a good zerg he must either make a timing or play really greedy to keep up

If he dosen't know it's literally like playing the lottery, play greedy versus a scrub and get cheesed out or play too safe versus a pro and auto-loose

Ah, Im just refering to proleage tournys, not standard ladder. I mean there was a few games a while back in WCS...I think it was life vs MC and life 6 pooled 2 games in a row...it didnt stop the cheesing (MC actually won with some great mechanical play and micro). I dunno, after watching tons of streams, most of the time in GM the person is like "oh this guy..he normally does..." which is basically how proleague is, because they know who they are playing.

/editIf he dosen't know it's literally like playing the lottery, play greedy versus a scrub and get cheesed out or play too safe versus a pro and auto-loose - so pretty much how sc should be - a game of scouting and countering. The game shouldnt start 3 months before you actually play the game...

I'm talking about tournaments obviously, there's constant mindgames between pros which makes the game interesting like Life knows MC is likely to nex first so he 6pools, THAT's interesting because it's metagaming

MC losing to diamond players one base build because he didn't know he was playing a nobody is just ridiculous and not good for the game

MC didnt nexus first...even if he was likely to...

And to your second point...pros 1base all in all the time...

It seems like because pros know their opponent the games are half fake. It removes a huge portion of the unknown of the game.

By doing this you'd allow a bunch of one trick pony protoss alliners to go pro, that's all i'm saying

Forget macro play you'd just see non-stop 2basetimings every matchup, you'd literally slit your wrists in one month watching that shit
