You end up with enough minerals to throw down an expand as your push happens. Or at least if you go 3 rax with constant SCV, marine, marauder production you end up with enough to expand at about 5:45. The attack is still hitting at the same time (around 6-6:15, up to 6:25 depending on map size) as I've been talking about. If you read the post where I tested out the timings, you'll see what I mean. Zerg can (realistically) have 3 queens and 24 lings off 2 bases (and speed). Terran ends up with 4 marauders and 9 marines and an expand being built as the attack hits. And stim.
By the time the push is resolved, Terran is on 2 bases with 3 raxes of production, no cut SCVs, and stim off 1 gas. Zerg has at BEST 3 queens and 2 bases and a lower drone count (1 gas, speed). Terran is also behind on SCVs (not as much as Zerg is-12+ early larva into lings?!?), since the nat is late, but mules are pretty cool guys.
So he crushes your push, then goes to your natural, and you die. If the Terran is only on 3 rax, then the zerg can literally baneling bust and win. Theres a reason why 1 base pushes aren't in the meta right now.
