that's true but even if iccup was free, BW was much "deader" than sc2 is now or ever was in the west
Riot and Blizzard are both companies trying to make a profit, Riot just invested a lot more wisely and their game is simple enough for a free to play model to actually work and be profitable at the same time. SC2 simply wouldn't make sense with that kind of model. Even if you could buy skins for units, Riot creates new champions all the time for people to buy (and believe me people spend cash on this shit) and Blizzard doesn't have the luxury to just add units willy nilly. Not to mention the effect a bunch of weird colorful looking costumes would have on the actual gameplay.
Granted they could do something like make the multiplayer section of SC2 free and only charge for the campaigns/custom games but that would mean they lose out on a lot of money.
That's kind of what I was thinking, and yeah, people spend shittons of cash on stupid unimportant stuff.
If blizzard could make the multiplayer f2p and implement some more skins (like they've been experimenting with the war pig n zergling, ultralisk, thor stuff) decals and stuff to buy, I think they could still make a lot of profit out of it, not even mentioning that 2/3 of people (i would) would buy the game for the campaign. Also, changing the arcade shit just back to the same system it was in warcraft 3 would be just great.
