Well, I think I'm equally as bad as a newbie.
I'd rather downplay my ability than boost it.

You might currently be as bad, but you have more game knowledge/mechanics knowledge than a newbie. Meaning you can grow rapidly/you can do it through better means than a newbie. So not giving us that information will cause us to give advice that will not help you. Plus people in Gold/lower leagues are giving you advice when you have hit Diamond at one point lol.

not much
i started playing with protoss first because i liked the way units and buildings looked and shit but switched to terran after 20 games maybe
i also got bored sometimes and played as random for a few days but always ended up going back to terran after 2-3 days

You should try to hit very precise allin timings that gsl level terrans hit. Your mechanics will skyrocket as you get closer and closer to hitting the timing perfectly.

Honostly if you're not good at the game yet just do whatever you want. You will learn what you can and can't do while playing. Please just play the game. Don't become everyone on this forum.

HEY. I don't copy builds. :(

Maybe, but he knows what the units do/the basics. He'd be better off copying BO's for awhile to refine mechanics/understand metagame rather than just going at it like someone who doesn't know how to build a marine.

Go obeserve a game of him vs someone to gauge what level he is at :) help him from there. I feel like you give the best advice for newbs.
