Difficult to compete with MOBAs simply based on the new age of gamers we have. MOBAs offer "social" options, playing with friends etc. Starcraft 2 is very much a single player game and therefore draws a smaller audience because the modern wave of gamers are more social gamers than previous generations, due to a heightened acceptance for video games among pop culture and an increased way of connecting with other gamers (as opposed to say, SCBW days where Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc weren't around).
I agree with the communication part, and /f m /w commands were fucking bomb rather than this autistic chat we have now on sc2/d3
But even as an old time gamer SC2 definitely took a shit over the past year
WCS Korea finals were really good, but even then its so obvious whats going to happen in certain situations the game itself is really repetitive and predictable while there is predictability in moba, the range of different outcomes is so much greater than sc2 just makes for better gameplay and viewing

even though I dont play dota2
Ti3 was amazing
But I have played dota1 so I know what was going on
I liked TI3 finals better than 2013 NBA finals
and I'm a die hard religious basketball player/fan
