you can just use the optical drive from your old desktop unless you are planning on sell that as a whole. Motherboard will be hard to pick out.

you wont have to upgrade for gaming or standard programs for a long time

i used to play sc2 on low/med with a p4 intel 2.6ghz
which was prolly made 10years prior to release of sc2

amd fx at $200 will last you a very long time just as the i7 intel $1000 will

you really dont know anything about computers do you

8150 is 200$ while the 2500k is 180$

the 2500k uses 80 watts while the 8150 uses 250 watts stock

the 2500k is also ~30% faster in games

why in the fuck would you want a bulldozer ryan, you have NO idea what you are talking about please stop giving advice.

i know plenty what im talking about

your not applying the circumstances for what would suit his needs
intel is more expensive for performance he can get out of amd

yea its also half the cores and an i5 not i7
not relevant to what i was saying at all anyway

I'm saving on the OS so I'll go with the i5, thanks guys

Just need a motherboard/optical drive/graphics card now

You can shave off 20 bucks if you go 2500 rather than 2500k
or if you look into the 2400 you could save another 20.

I haven't actually looked at the differences between the 2500 and 2400, but the basic stuff looked the same. Probably different pins.

This one looks promising.  Gigabyte is pretty legit.

Pins are correct.  I'd be concerned about anything significantly cheaper.

A motherboard in the 125$ range will work fine for your build.
