Assuming the protoss has eyes and sees mutas, I see nothing wrong with spending a few resources to ensure that the mineral line is not harassed.

The problem lies in that 2 cNnons arent enough to stop mutalisk harrasment. If you build more it's a waste and your army is weaker. Building less is obsolete since you will need to move troops there to defend anyways, then why not invest in a mobile army rather than static defenses? Mutalisks are good.

mutalisks are very squishy and can lose you the game if you over make them

If your opponent commits heavily to mutalisk pressure then no, 2-3 cannons will not stop them. Against 12 or so (common harass number), they'll do fine. What they DO do is give you time to get your stalkers/HT/archons to the base that's being harassed and defend.

You don't think that mutalisks are the squishiest units in the game?... lol for the cost?...

If you make mutalisks, you have to harass, if you don't , they'll just die in your army. In ZvT, mutas are nothing more than something to snipe drops / tanks, if you over produce, you lose.

in ZvP there's a reason we don't use mutas as much... anymore... they're good for some harass, but terrible unless you got a giant flock of 20-25, then they're viable, but chances are. Brotoss is just going for a 2 base all in, and you lose.

If you let the Zerg army max Mutas against pure stalkers ... you deserve to lose lol.... it's called scouting....
