you aren't doing ANYTHING terran intensive. do it with protoss. it doesn't matter. you're increasing your apm by controlling many units at once all across the map. that is one way to increase your apm/multitasking.
another way to increase multitasking and overall apm is knowing what to do at every moment throughout the game. I, and I suppose most other players, come to a point in every game where you aren't quite sure what exactly you should be doing RIGHT NOW. whether it be not knowing when or what to transition to, when or if you can take another expansion, when to stop making scvs, etc. the reason pros sustain such a high number of apm is that they have a plan and know exactly how to execute this. they have of course played thousands of refined starcraft 2...
watching streams helps you learn a build and SOMETIMES learn when to do "x" action at "x" time. watch less streams and progress your own starcraft 2 skill. come up with your own builds. experiment. if YOU put the work in, YOU will get better at the game. watching pro streams is you in your dreams. well, study matchups inside and out and maybe you can get up to 200 apm. it's not impossible, it just comes with accurate mouse movement and a very solid understanding of the game.
i've found that it's really great to run through customs and benchmark all your builds, so that you know what you can accomplish under an ideal environment.
and i agree, when i'm helping my roommate benchmark builds, i just practice little things like splitting up lings and scouting with them while i'm injecting on hatcheries spread around the map.
e: i came into starcraft 2 with around 250 brood war apm, when i first started sc2 i dropped down to around 180, then steadily rose to a peak of 330. as you play more and more, you realize the potential actions you can accomplish in quick succession, and that's what drives you to become a faster player.
instead of sitting down and saying, "i'm going to spam and try to play super fast and that's going to make me faster!" you should instead sit down and break down your mechanics, and say, "what can i do to improve upon X mechanic while also maintaining Y mechanic."
