every single matchup becomes a certain unit comp vs a certain unit comp, it's starcraft

idk you guys must expect the most random shit to happen

There have been times where that hasn't been the case. PvZ is a great example of this. There have been periods of time where the PvZ meta was either stargate opening or mass gateway opening, and the Zerg players have had options of going a muta-focused play or a roach/hydra style. Not necessarily the case today (no idea what the case is today), but there have been balance points where that was the case, and there have been metagame states that have been more open to different styles of play. I think what users are hoping for is that there's enough balance within the races and within unit strengths for there to be multiple available approaches to each MU.

you realize openings in themselves =/= meta, right? and that plays leading into disruptor plays don't narrow the game down to ~2 opens? You can still go stargate, dt, blink, proxy stuff, warp prisms w/e, you will just tech up to disruptor tempest later on.

Well since this started of with PvP let me drop some knowledge.

PvP has ~2 Metas right now.

Primarily we see Stalker/Disruptor. And there is a secondary, less popular style/meta of opening Blink/immo into chargelot archon.

Both are quite popular, although I see the first more.

As for openers. There is a TON of pvp openers. Usually in the form of nexus first or 1gate expo.

Although aggressive openers are indeed viable such as 2gate adept into proxy X into expo.

I didn't really know about anything else than stalker disruptor, but as I was watching chargelots came into my mind, as it might give the disruptor player trouble using them against chargelots.

Yep. But, there is defs. a timing with that style + You can't just 1a you gotta split because disruptor > 1a

Openings and the mid-game they produce are a huge part of the metagame.

Yeah the openers are always changing but usually the unit composition goal is the same. Except for things like mech vs bio.

Maybe for the super-late game. There have still been times where Zerg would have to pick between hurling masses of roach/hydra for the whole game vs a brood lord/corruptor style. But that's really for the super-late game, as opposed to the majority of the game where we often see more composition diversity, determined by openings.

I'm thinking a little bit more generally here. Muta/ling/baneling vs bio/medivac vs colossi/gateway vs roach/hydra, depending on the matchup. I'm trying to defend parting and showtime for both going stalker/disruptor since they know it's good. Some people were complaining that it's lame just like swarm host vs swarm host but I'm saying going for a good army composition is a good idea and stalker/disruptor is a lot more engaging than swarm host vs swarm host.
