Very true, I've played masters my like last 4 games of 2v2. I'm a gold player... so ya know, actually managed to win 2 of them, still no promotion to plat though.
you see it,
platinum team players, mostly have silver in 1vs1
and visaverta, ''bad'' team players have big league placements in 1vs1
posible some team players simply not like to practice 1vs1
posible some 1vs1 players count on economical advantage to match, witch is not as match needed in team game
