Work on your fundamental knowledge of the game, don't let build orders get in the way of your thought process.  You should be able to understand why builds are the way they are, and even sometimes just make your own variation of a build you took from a progamer.  You need to just learn how to play the game first, mainly making safe and solid decisions.  Also, never play risky, always play safe, expand when you absolutely know why you are expanding and if you're safe enough to do so.
