"Just playing" is the easiest way to get trapped in bad habits like thinking high APM means you're actually accomplishing a lot, using the mouse to move screen, not tapping properly to keep up with injects etc.


The current pros and commentators have already snuffed out most of these bad habits to the point where it's common sense to avoid them... if you're informed. It would be foolish not to seek out the wisdom of the experienced while learning something >.>

OP is coming into the game at the perfect time.

I wish I wouldn't have wasted 3 years playing Terran when somebody could have just told me to play Protoss.

So, play protoss and you will excel in the game of Starcraft.

Don't start trying to learn specific builds and just that, to rush to dia. Because once you start trying to learn micro and hotkeys, your skill level is just going to drop back down.
Go for it all at once, practice hotkeying, practice micro, and macro. Even if it's slowing you down and fucking you up. Don't worry about specific builds until you got your hotkeys down though, that's the main thing. Macro is the easy part, once you got the hotkeys down, start really focusing on the macro and timings.
