you send it through a mailing system. i'm pretty sure you can mail cross server so you can buy gold from anyone
you select your server in the beginning and all your characters are bound to that unless you change it, but the only real point of server selection is the wvw pvp. you can still quest with your friends if they're on other servers

I love gw2, though it doesn't seem to suck me in as much as WoW did, which may be a good thing or a bad thing. I still haven't done all there is to do yet though.

People who played a lot of GW don't like it, because it became a lot more casual as far as I've heard.
