Hi, I haven't played sc2 in such a long time (I think I stopped the moment master league was introduced).
At that stage, I was a platinum, but a big reason was that I would only
1) Cheese
2) follow one build
Since I don't wish to follow those same footsteps again and instead IMPROVE...
how should I go about doing this?
1) Should I stick to one race? Or go for random? (I'm Korean if you are asking, but I don't think I can play zerg effectively, lol).
2) Should I be first getting really good at ONE build, then branch out to different ones the moment I can play the aforementioned build perfectly?)
3) Should I be warming up/playing any custom maps?
4) Would watching pro streams help? Or is the gameplay at high levels too different from lower ones?
5) Any other advice right here please!
1) Stick to one race if you want to go for rank. Improve is too vague a term to give an end-all answer for this question, but if you want to climb the ladder, pick & stick.
2) Get good at one build per match up (MU).
3) Warm up. It can be as simple as running through your BO once in an empty custom game. If you get the chance to practice vs people of your skill or higher, do so. Always awesome ot play the same person a few times and get their feedback.
4) Watching GSL will help you get an idea for builds/openings/conceptual things/decision making (because the casters will try to tell you that stuff). In general, it is better to play than watch.
5) Don't give up. Don't rage, and don't play games when you're mad. If you get frustrated, or lose 2 in a row, take a short break (5-10 minutes minimum, or longer if you feel like you need it) to clear your head then come back with a new and improved mindset. Post replays here to get feedback from high level players.
