Well, about a year and a half ago, I was playing team games really heavily at a mediocre level. Now, I am about to embark on a new sc2 quest - get good at at least 1 race in 1v1. Which should I pick?

Depends on the amount of effort you want to put in. Protoss for derp mode, Zerg for Macro mode and Terran for Mechanics mode

rofl.

Pick whichever race you like. Different races require different skill sets. Are you a cheesy player? Do you want to always macro or prefer a lot of all ins? Do you want to be micro focused, or more on mechanics, or positioning?

Stick with the die, it won't steer you wrong. Terran, Zerg, and Protoss are all fucking OP and need a nerf. Be a real man, play the real race.
Waiting for Blizzard to buff R and add more destructible rocks.

If you want easy wins with very minimal effort, pick protoss.

You can pretty much take a nap and still win games.

zerg is the hardest race to pick up and go with, but it becomes very simple around the master's level of play, and then you become limited by the simple engagement mechanics during late game fights. you basically hinge on terran/toss players to make mistakes so that you can capitalize and win engagements.

terran is the second hardest race to pick up, it becomes the hardest around master's level of play, and the skill ceiling is the highest of the three races. there are always opportunities to play better, and has a very harsh learning curve.

protoss is the easiest to pick up, easiest at the master's level of play, and hinges on "cheesy" or "all-in" type of play. it's got a very low skill ceiling, but very harsh on poor engagements. typically, in pvx games, the forcefields/unit micro of toss players sets the pace for engagements, and poorly placed forcefields can lose you a game quicker than anything.

people will disagree, but that's from my experience as a zerg main player, toss offrace, and terran enthusiast. i'd like to get better with terran, but it's a very hefty investment of playtime.

all in all, terran is the true skill master race of sc2, but a lot of people have too much "racial pride" to admit it.

if your mechanics are good and you have 120+ apm, go with zerg
if you play below 90apm, go with protoss
if you dont mind lossing games and maybe not achieve masters in 1v1.. aaaand also have 180+ apm, go with terran

Honestly, if I could I would go random and learn how to play macro games and be at the masters level in all matchups. As it stands right now, the players who know me know that my style is definitely leaning more to the cheesy/1 base end simply due to the number of team games I've played. All balance stuff aside, just an honest question: Do those of you who are master's with one race feel like you could learn the other races and play as well with them or does the race that you play fit your play style more than the others and how did you find this out?

/e and also do you feel that it would be best to learn one race inside and out before branching out to other races if I decide to go random?
