I noticed the Drow class in one of the "founder" bundle videos, and I was wondering if you could play as a Drow without one? I am currently installing the game.

You probably had a better experience with a nice party and easy opponents. Some people get stomped on in their first 60 pvp, because bad gear/afk teammates. But I'm glad you liked it you'll like it even more as you get better gear.
