You can no longer use modded gear on borderlands 2 UNLESS you delete all your patches and play solo on single player with base game NO dlc.
There are however SOME hybrid items that stay in the game when imported but there are only slightly better than the original legit item.

This is untrue, you just need to have the gun deletion check bypass enabled that TJ developed. Basically people who don't know how to mod aren't able to keep their modded weapons is more accurate.
