Rakk was the hardest boss in my playthrough 1 although i never died at one of them except at the vault boss.

What i did was sit back critical the fuck out of him and even when the birds came i kept shooting Rakk. The birds would put me down and i would take out my trusty shotty, kill one get up start shooting rakk again. I only went down twice at lvl 26
