I would say dont do it. The game is too addicting and time consuming. Just my opinion.

Do you have people to play with? What kind of content do you enjoy? I'm enjoyed SL season 3 right now, but I have some friends I consistently PvP with.

I think it really depends on what your life situation is like right now, do you have the time to sink into it? You're inevitably going to get sucked in. Do you have other responsibilities? demanding job, kids, wife etc. if no, then go for it dude. enjoy yourself.

What does prepatch mean? People get to play early? Do they keep their characters upon initial release?

Otherwise, if you lose everything or have to start fresh what's the point in coming back early?

Prepatch is a patch that drops a bit before a new expansion, usually comes with an event related to the new expansion. I believe since this one is for wrath it will open up death knights as well.

Any progress you make during prepatch will certainly carry over when the new expansion drops. People usually say prepatch is a good time to come back as there is more interest in the game and newer players to play with for leveling and whatnot.
