imo play whatever class you enjoy.
what one person thinks to be fun, you might not.
some are better at single/few targets, while others prime out against huge groups.
gear and knowledge of your character and its skills will make the difference between you and your friend.

i started playing again just over 3 weeks ago, haven't played wow since 2010.
i used to main dk tank, so i decided to go for dps, and tried out the dh.
a while after being 110 and working on my gear, i decided to look at my talents.
my talent setup is basically the opposite of the talent guide (and in some cases the "least recommended" talent), but my build gives me survivability rather than glass cannon and no way to sustain.
i enjoy it. i could solo the vast majority of open world content and don't have much trouble in dungeons. i find it easier to fight groups of 20-30 mobs with 1500k-2000k health as opposed to a single mob with 12000k health.
im currently 862 with all gear obtained from world quests, with the exception of an 855 ring from raid finder. haven't had any decent drops in mythic dungeons yet.

if you really want to, just type "wow dps rank" in google, find a few sites, compare. don't let that alone dictate what character you go for though.

Its hard to beat a spriest when they madness it up but rogues always fun af.

This, except for the rogue part. I dont know rogues.

Feral is pretty well off at the moment. As is enhancementioned shamans.
Fire is pretty well off, once you get the crit up.

Fire is getting nerfed into oblivion next patch.

yeah i was looking at feral but my irl buddy that got me into the game is a feral so im trying to go a different route ya know.
Any other opinions? Was thinking like troll hunter was fun.
Or go death knight -> demon hunter. And rock with a demon hunter.
