Questing: TAKE YOUR TIME. This is your first play through... enjoy the lore and story of WoW. Read the text and thoroughly understand your objective. Especially enjoy the great humor that Blizzard writers have put into all the quests... truly some awesome gems in there.
Addon Suggestion: "STORYLINE" on Curse ; changes the normal quest UI to one more RPG flavored. Great for someone taking their time to go through quests.
Exploring: This will be your greatest time saver. Exploring will open up flight paths that you won't have to get later and introduce you to new quest hubs off the beaten path. Start to learn the map and recognize zones, learn the fastest ways to travel (horde? Zeppelin / alliance? Boat), and meet new factions.
Addon Suggestion: "COLLECTME" on Curse ; adds a new button to your Mounts, Toys, and Pets UI that allows you to sort through said items you're missing. Can be set to current zone which is nice while you're there questing.
Professions: Don't leave them behind. Plate wearer? Probably go Blacksmith (mining). PvPer? Try Engineering (mining). Alchemy (herbalism) would be a neutral one. Leatherworking (skinning) for leather and mail. Enchanting pairs well with Tailoring if you're a clothy. If you know you're going to be lazy and won't stay with it then choose two gathering professions like Skinning and Herbalism or Mining and Skinning. You will regret it if you don't: these are the best source of income for you and you will need gold.
Addon Suggestion: "GATHERMATE2" and "GATHERMATE2_DATA" on Curse ; this will add gathering locations (and fishing and archeology) to your map and minimap. Download the data file in the mods description and import through the addon settings in game.
