if you have a token already in your inventory and your playtime expires, you definitely do not need gametime to "use it."

if you have enough gold for the token in your inventory before your acc expired, then you don't need gametime to buy the token either.

I have let my time expire multiple times. just log in and if you have a token I think it prompts pretty much immediately if you want to use it to add game time

Aye - can confirm all situations.

1. Account did not have active subscription. The ability to purchase a token for in game time was available to me through my client.
2. Account did not have active subscription. Support ticket asking for a week free to "test" Legion and see if I'd like to purchase the expansion and renew subscription was approved. So was friends. So was husbands. So was my other friends. So was my brothers. They want you to resubscribe.
