Haven't played since the end of Lichtenstein King and I have some questions.
Google was not super useful with this, seemingly because of the recent expansion.

How easy is playing with a friend from another realm? What is restricted?

Can I get gold from one character to another on a different server?

How easy is leveling from 80-100? Is it more effective to use instant 100 on a new character and just level the 80s I want to play manually?

What is currently a good healing class that can solo on its own?

1. As Long as your friend in in the same faction, you can party up with him.

2. Not without transferring the character.

3. Leveling is quite easy and is fun from 80 to 110
You could probably do it in about 1-2 weeks if you're dedicated.

4. With the changes with Legion, most healer classes have talents they can select to quest even in a healer spec.
Don't have the specific build handy, but the dps output is pretty good on my Holy Paladin, usually switch to ret though when I quest.
Also you can change specs for free now(in a city or inn), so I would suggest to simply switch to a DPS spec.

When playing cross realm are there any limitations to what you can do?

You may not trade, but gear found in an instance can be traded for a limited time (2 hours if I recall correctly)
