I first started at the very end of the burning crusade and played on and off up to the beginning of MoP.

So here are my questions.
What is Garrison?
What is and how do you use the black market?
What are WoW Tokens?

Please feel free to add any extra information on changes that have happened since I played.

garrison is like your own little town with buildings you can build to enhance your style of play and professions. as you level up you can build more and bigger buildings. starting at lvl 1, upgrade to 2, and max at lvl 3. needless to say, lvl 3 buildings give more than lvl 1/2. the inn is a cool building for dungeon/heroic quests to give you toys.
black market ah in nagrand, draenor is for items that aren't normally purchased through normal npc's. it's like the normal AH but there's no 'bin' only bidding style
wow tokens can be bought on the AH for gold. 1 wow token = 1 month game time

I took a break from the end of WOTLK to mid WoD to play with some friends.

Bad news is you are behind, the talent trees, raiding, gearing, stats, etc are all different.

Good new is, you can learn all of this from a few youtube tutorials and builds. No worries.

Other good news is leveling a toon will be a nostalgic run-through of all the old dungeons you knew and loved, but with better gear to curb the challenge of them. Heirlooms are essentially free, blues for every run along with all the gold you need. Skills pop automatic as well as weapon training. Shits ez mode to get back starting and the PvE is fairly straightforward. Even pugs can heroic raid, possibly not successfully, but it can be done.

WoW is an entirely different game since the last time you played, on the bright side though if you still have characters that have been untouched since BC you may have a small fortune sitting on your characters. Old recipes that can no longer be obtained, some BoE gear, old mats, gear, ect can be worth a lot to collectors(if youre the type who likes to make gold)

Getting to level 100 should take only a few days if you go at a casual pace, once you get to 100 a ton of options open up to you. You can do pvp to get geared up high enough to be able to raid, you can use your garrison to make a ton of gold before legion comes out, you can run old raids for transmog(changing the appearance of your gear). You can also do them to make gold. Level professions, gathering will be especially good in legion. It is possible to start your legendary ring quest, although there may not be enough time before legion comes out to finish.

Theres so much to do it could literally become overwhelming. I spend most of my time doing things that will make me gold, so thats why a lot of my suggestions are about gold lol. But there is much to do in pve, pvp, twinking, pet battles, in so many different things. I think the best thing for you to do right now is to get to max level and then let us know what kind of gameplay experience youre looking for, that will help us narrow down the options for you.

I would say wait until the new expansion and play it when it comes out. Not worth playing just to level up and farm just to raid content that's not going to be needed anymore. If you pre-order expansion you get a free level 100 of your choice.
