Unfortunately, Blizzard has been saying "No" to Vanilla/Legacy servers for a very long time. And I doubt this petition will change their minds, as much as I would love to see that happen.
I played Nost very briefly but my interest dwindled as I played other games, and had RL stuff going on.
At the very end of the day, Blizzard has legal rights to their game and can shut down any server, at any time. This was inevitable, in my opinion. The server was just getting too big and popular, and I'm certain WoW's sub numbers did take a significant hit with this being available. I'm genuinely surprised it lasted as long as it did.
They will do anything to protect their game, and we have to remember, this is a business. When money is involved, Blizz doesn't fuck around. *Though I know that Nost was doing this for profits, and I'm sure donations went to keeping the server alive* but the principle remains.
That's why I stopped investing a lot of time and effort into Private servers (because I did at one point), they eventually get shut down, and all that time you spent BAM gone in a second.
