Started WoW again about a week ago in a very long time (Last played was 2009) so I'm not very knowledgeable in the new rotations and specs.

What I need help on is how to maximize my DPS and which spec of mage I should play to pull decent DPS.

Currently I tried frost and arcane; and to be honest, my DPS sucks ass LOL.... At 690 ilvl, I average anywhere between 22K and 30K dps which is utterly pathetic... And I cannot seem to figure out how to improve it.

I've tried to follow many guides and read the rotations and try to mimic it but I just can't seem to raise it even on training dummies.

Can someone please help a pathetic n00b like me thoroughly? :(

Thanks

frost is great, arcane is good dps but high maintenance

itemization is huge for whatever spec you play. for frost haste & multistrike are huge. tier bonuses are also huge for any spec

So to follow the learning curve, I should play frost? I tend to do even worse with frost.

Edit: And I cannot seem to get any itemization as no one allows me to raid T_T which I totally understand due to my failures as a DPS...

trinkets and tier pieces are huge, start with brf if you cant get into hfc raids because your dps is too low
after you get some tier pieces and trinkets going, you should be able to easily pug into normal hfc and get 2 piece t18 from the lower floor
after that your dps should be decent if you're doing your rotation right(pretty easy until you get 4 piece and archi trinket; just spam frost bolt and icelance whenever FoF procs, etc) and you should be able to get socrethar and mannoroth on normal, if you're lucky you'll get 4 piece
watch videos on the fights on youtube and research your rotation on mmochamp

I have 1 T18 piece, the helmet from normal HFC (2nd one was unfortunately ninja'd T_T).

Whenever I do the frostbolt/ffb/icelance combo's I only get about 23K DPS.. am I doing something wrong?
