i think alot of people see a new realm as a ladder to climb. Even though they know first day will see thousands of instant 80's with pay-to-win gear, even in pve. D2 has been plagued by dupers and auto-levelers and bots for years now. Yet the population on reset day is steady.

Ive moved onto that dalaran-wow realm, much better. Instant 70 with 2 non-weapon heirlooms is fairly balanced, still requires alot of work to get to 80 and get geared enough to raid or pvp. Id love a WOTLK with literally 0 donates but my guess is the population would be so shit it would fail in months. Rebirth only survives because the owner doesnt care about money or population. He wants a no donations 100% blizzlike server.

I used to feel that way, then I realized that money -> more active, caring developers -> more and faster fixes

A tiny % of other people buying gear doesn't affect my gameplay experience when we have a decent population

That may be true about mol10, i never bothered with that place myself. I believe there can be a balance between '0 donation' and caring only about revenue.
