This all depends on the realms pricing for Ore. every ore is profitable to prospect and sell the uncut gems(needed for recipes and leveling professions)

I mainly would stick with Thorium ore


Say 1 stack of 20 sells for 20g. you get a minimal of 4 uncommon gems from it, yes a few of them sell for 2-4g each. But couple of them sell for 10-15g each. as long as you get a few of those high value gems, you make gold!! Depends when you sell them, i was getting 50g PER Diamonds at one point.

Anyway, like rhazor said, it depends on server - BUT - thorium is a solid choice...azerothian diamonds, huge emeralds, black opals (I think) and maybe a couple others...are the gems that the "go-to" profession power leveling guides recommend, and for whatever reason they have held value over the expansions. Picture brain dead zombies that are too stupid to shop and just follow the guide = profit.

If you wanna be sure you'll make money just check the ores/gems on your server.
