As experienced D2 players know, there is information on exactly how the game rolls every item that's gonna drop (treasure classes, type of item, how magic find factors in, etc). I'm wondering if there is any information like that for WoW that will help me better understand where my odds could be better to find a random world drop I want.
Example: I'm trying to farm a random world drop recipe. The recipe itself is an item level 49 green. Wowhead says it can drop from mobs level 45-55. I find a level 47-49 area where mobs and containers seem to drop ilvl 49 things at a higher rate than average level 50+ mobs.
Does that mean those sources also have a better chance for the pattern I want?
Or do you think any mob that has my pattern on its loot table all have identical chances to drop it?
Or do you think every mob/container has an individually coded loot table and there is no trend that can be established to increase my odds?
That's just an example, but I'm really just looking for a way to better understand how best to hunt for things. Instead of running around blind, only focusing on where I can get the highest kills per minute, I'd like to inject some logic into the hunting process.
