thinking about starting a rogue since a lot of people suggested it last topic. I am really interested in getting him to 1-100 as a timesink while in college when I am bored or whatever. My main is a WW monk so I figure this character would be right up my alley since they seem very similar so question is what spec is best for what?

at low levels you want to go sub for pretty much everything. then when you get to 80ish-100 you're going to want to decide what spec you want to play..

I prefer assassination for pve and pvp however I think most people go sub for pvp and assas/combat for pve depending on pref..

may i ask why sub for levelling low levels?

I suppose sub has just always been a pref for me for leveling low level rogues. mostly because I play on a pvp server and I like to start fights in world pvp and it just feels like the better spec for that. you also don't get a large amount of the crucial assassination abilities until later on if I remember correctly..

Also (again preferential) you don't get the talent "anticipation" until later on, and I feel like this talent really helps with managing assassination bubbles.

Sub also allows you to jump into bgs and do fairly well at low levels. something I really enjoy doing from time to time while leveling.

Ass is really strong leveling spec

thanks for LFR/D, blizzard made dungeons pretty unrealistic for dps to get in and gear up with 30 min ques, so everyone makes tanks/healers now
gearing PVP will be a damn sight easier than PVE, from a dps point of view rogues are pretty good now but MW monks are better iirc? may as well just get O/S gear for your monk bro

sub is the worst for leveling, because backstab is the main ability, which you cannot use infront of a monster.

Assasination is great, because multilate can be used infront of the target.
Combat is also fine.

I prefer Assasination


at lvl 100, switch to sub, it's the best damage dealer as of yet.

I am aware that wind walker monks are second and third best in dps at the moment but honestly that isn't what I am looking for, I need a time sink and want to try something new. Played monk throughout MoP as well as warlock(though she is scummy alliance) and when I asked people earlier in this forum many pointed to me to try out rogue. Also if you are saying just focus on end game with my monk don't bother leveling a character, I am not a hardcore gamer for this game and just don't want to have to farm out endlessly for gear. I want to have fun and trying a new character sounds fun to me
