Is this guide still a good place for me to learn the basics?

I want to know, as I'm a competitive player who enjoys PVE/PVP in other games, and my friends recently picked up the game and are encouraging me to get it also, if it's worth it for me to start a game that's already been out for quite some time. Is there lots of end-game content? Are the developers listening to player feedback and patching/updating the game consistently to balance it? Is there still a large player base? Is the economy somewhat stable? Etc.

Just the basics.

-Game is pretty easy to get into tbh, especially with one insta level 90, can hop right into the current content
-metric shit ton of content, hardcore and casual alike with lots of side things to keep yourself busy
-lots of balance, updates, devs changed a feature after one day after community outpour over a recent issue
-10 million active subs
-yes stable economy

What class should I play? What classes are needed frequently for raiding/classes that are in high demand?
