The 6 Main Steps

1. Get garrisons up on as many toons as you can above level 96. Preferably to 100. Keep all quest greens and DE them at a friend's building if you are not an enchanter.
2. Use herb garden and mine. Assign the follower to gorgrond fly trap if you plan to sell the herbs or have tailoring/leatherworking daily cds to make. Use frostweed for your alchemist's herb garden for self sufficiency.
3. Make daily cds and work orders for professions.
4. Use barn and trap till you get level 3 barn and do your work orders with the elites for a chance at savage blood.
5. Get a follower for each building and get it to level 100.
6. Make your 640 items or the upgrade tokens to sell on the ah once you have enough materials for them.

Farm greens or leather in off time if you do not want to level your other characters. Alternatively farm primal spirits if you are looking to get more resources for your professions or savage bloods more quickly.


Become self sufficient
1. Make an alchemist, a jewelcrafter (or multiple) and an enchanter of some sorts on your characters to provide yourself with flasks, gems and enchants for your gear.

This requires multiple characters. If you don't have multiple characters above level 90... you are shit out of luck and will have to buy things unless you become JC/alch or alch/enchanter and you will still need to purchase JC or enchanting materials. If this is the case for you than you will not have decent means of generating profit without going out and farming primal spirits and making your 3rd small building a scribe building so that you can convert spirits to war paint and generate darkmoon cards/tarots.

I strongly suggest using JC for the third building if you can use other professions as your main ones due to there being a daily quest for 200+ gold (currently).

Followers and you @ 100 to make gold
1. Create a level 2 inn and get followers that have scavenging trait to send on the garrison resource missions. This produces more than the lumber mill or the trading post... combined.
2. Create a trading post and trade your resources for draenic dust to sell, trade ore for garrison resources since you will have an over abundance if you don't wish to sell it straight up.
3. Send your followers on treasure hunting missions that give you green quality items for your own use to DE or gold missions. Gold missions can yield up to 300g each most being 50-175.
4. ALWAYS have a salvage yard, do as many missions as possible with a yield of resources other than experience and hope for greens/boe epics to sell or DE.

Missions are a great way to make gold for those of you whom don't want to go farm old content for pure gold.

DOOOOOOOM
Theres a ticking timebomb on ore, herbs and leather having value. Once people are 100 with level 3 buildings their professions will all be self sufficient, once people are self sufficient the chance of them actually buying anything that is not a BOE epic or upgrade token/toy/enchant are very very low.

Within 3 months all WOD raw materials will more than likely become worthless other than fish until they are over-done as well because well... everyone needs lots of flasks.

TLDR: Farmville/Clash of clans in an MMO to kill your time and stop you from "farming gold". BOES will stay relatively expensive until so many people are too far progressed into heroic raiding that they become obsolete (4-5 months max).
