Do you have to buy every version or just the new xpac nowadays? Don't think I have any old account that I didn't sell or get banned so I need the whole game.

The original should come with xpac up to mop..i think. But you'll need all exp to play wod. But shouldn't cost too much.

All the xpacs are free / included with WoW standard edition ($20), except WoD

I even got them for free somehow on my b.net account that didn't even have wow installed

Just need the battlechest (vanilla-mop) and WoD, should run you about 60$

If you don't mind waiting though, it should go on sale soon. Every year for black friday they drop the battle chest price down to 5$, WoD may or may not get a discount too

The battlechest gives you all expansions except Warlords of Draenor.
So you buy the following

Battlechest - Which gives you up to MOP and 1 month
WOD Xpac - And your done
