population is fine, and you will easily be able to find a raid grp/guild IF you are caught up, since with TBC/midnight most guilds are stuck on the roster boss.
Hardest part of catching up is your cloak/gem, which if you feel like slogging through you might be in time for SoO, which is a goat raid.
I THINK you can finish gem quest in celestial dungeons, so that makes it ever so slightly easier/farmable in a week.
