So I'm playing Classic and I keep running into players that are only lv25 with ground mounts, but from what I remember from back in the day, minimum level was 40. When I look at the wiki and stuff all I can find is that the lowest mount level is 40.

So how do I get a mount at lv20? I'm currently 26.

Oh, also at Stormwind I purchased a lv20 riding skill thing but I'm not really sure what that was even for. I don't recall gaining mount exp or anything like that so I'm not sure what I spent that gold for.

There are like 4 versions of classic. Vanilla era, anniversary, Cata and SOD.

I assume you mean Cataclysm since level 20 mounts became a thing in Wrath.

It's level 40 and 60 for vanilla, 30 for tbc and then 20 for Wrath.

You need to train riding skill to use a mount. You can buy a mount from a vendor next to the guy who does the training.

So it took me probably a total of 2 hours or more of googling and just wondering around the city, but yesterday I finally found it in Stormwind.

I bought the training at the griffon trainer, not where you buy the mounts. That's where a lot of the confusion was. I kept looking all around the trading district figuring I'd be around there, but no.

Also yeah I'm playing cata. I didn't know you could change it or whatever. I just knew there was classic and retail so I chose classic, even though that's still way beyond since I last played which was Burning Crusade.

No that's not at all what I said. I can't buy what I can't use. Flying requires level 60. I bought the level 20 ground training from the trainer near the Griffon flight.

Aight, usually there are vendors in the first "starting area" you run into, wich includes Mount vendors next to the riding Trainers.
Thats also where u can buy mounts from diffrent races if you have the reputation for it.
They also exist in the Main Citys, like i think Horses in Stormwind, Tigers in Darnasuss and Ironforge got the Dwarf and Gnome ones.

Was ground mounts really 40 in vanilla. Damn its been a while

Yeah. Didn't help that I had to share the computer with my brother as a kid but also having to walk almost everywhere absolutely sucked. Took me many months just to get to 40. It was also a lot more expensive.
