I've been out of the wow scene for a while.

Want to try out classic modes, whats the most played or trend right now? is it hardcore classic or is S.o.D still a thing

Probably the anniversary servers (hardcore fresh or pve/pvp fresh).

Anniv servers are the most packed.
Hardcore is hardcore, ends at naxx, which most guilds wont ever clear.
Era servers are basically TBC waiting rooms, the phases are expedited to get us to TBC sooner.

SoD is pretty much dead, unless you are already geared/60 good luck finding a group for anything other than AQ hard.
