It used to be in Germany as well, at pretty much the same time. From like 2002 to 2009-2010~, but it went pretty downhill in its final years. It's a thing. It was exactly what Gamescom is.

They didn't just change the name. The same people may have organized and invested in it. But the events are entirely different. Regardless, the point was, he could have at least gotten the name of the event correct.
